Riverside Blvd. Apartment

Upper West Side, New York City.

2,000SF.

This 2,000 SF apartment is located on the 45th floor of a high rise building in the Upper West Side neighborhood of New York City, facing the Hudson River with astonishing views ranging from midtown Manhattan to downtown, northern New Jersey and up towards George Washington Bridge.

The family who purchased the apartment asked me to plan and design their home, make recommendations for trades and design selections. The apartment had 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms and has not been renovated since the building was first occupied, in 1997.  The bathrooms were in good condition and therefore were not renovated.

We chose to focus on key spaces that were significant for their appearance.  We enclosed part of the main living space to make a 4th bedroom. To allow for a large open space, we opened the previously closed kitchen, with a counter towards the dining area. Wood floor has been replaced throughout the apartment, including the kitchen for continuity. The kitchen has been re-arranged, relocating the sink towards the counter, the views and the rest of the family or guests.  In addition, a wine cooler has been added, as well as a floating shelf as continuum of the bright looking Caesarstone countertop.

The custom kitchen cabinets were painted very light gray, with push-open upper cabinets for a clean look. To offset the lack of upper cabinet in the open side of the kitchen (towards the counter and dining area), the cabinet adjacent to the kitchen has been converted to a pantry.

The column separating the kitchen and living room has been finished with Venetian plaster;

In order to add more artificial light to the apartment, we have created soffits in the living room and all bedrooms. That allowed us adding minimalist spotlights. We also installed a statement light fixture above the dining table and a few more light fixtures throughout the spaces.

The many beautiful art pieces of the owners found a new and fitting location in this new home.
